So… What’s all this about?

Everyone calls me Fish, and that kind of evolved into the stage persona of “Fish” that I’ve been using for decades now. Most of the songs I have written lean heavily on my sarcastic nature, and any of my lyrical incursions into dark, serious, or uncomfortable territory were always tempered with humor.

I’ve been a little angry with some of the things happening in the world recently, and in order to deal with the overwhelming emotions of heartbreak, defeat, exhaustion, depression, anger, and frustration in a healthier manner than consuming mass quantities of alcohol and/or prescription medications, I decided to pour all of these awful emotions into a new music project that I had given the working title of “Hybris”.

In Greek mythology, Hybris or Hubris was the spirit and personification of insolence. She embodied the manifestation of excessive arrogance leading to the defiance of the natural order and disrespect of the gods, which in turn resulted in divine retribution. (Thanks, Wikipedia!) That concept pretty well summed up what I was pissed off about, so the Hybris project was born.

Taking inspiration from Rage Against the Machine, my goal with these new songs has been to write music and lyrics that are heavy, intense, and dark. Those darker emotions aren’t really the core of that sarcastic music I’ve written as “Fish”, so I needed a new stage name… and what could possibly be angrier than a Thundering Shark? That’s right… NOTHING. Nothing could be angrier than a Thunderous Shark, and thus, ThunderShark was born.
